In partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Friends of the Library GISD is excited to offer Families Reading Every Day, or "FRED" as we like to call it, which is a 4-week FREE reading program where you focus on reading together as a family. During the program, you enter daily reading logs of the number of books and time you read together as a family.
FRED is a fun and effective way to strengthen family bonds and promote literacy development by encouraging families to focus on reading together. The FRED program is for adults with kids of all ages! All it takes is a commitment to spend time reading together.
The goal is 15 minutes a day for the first 2 weeks, and then work your way up to 30 minutes a day for the remainder 2 weeks. Of course, it will depend on the child's age and the adults involved. Any starting point is a good one!
We will be recognizing those families who participate in this program at our Graham Elementary School Reads One Book Event scheduled for Thursday, May 4, 2023. There will also be opportunities to win prizes so save the date and get signed up for FRED today!
Should you have any questions regarding program registration please contact our Young County Extension Office at 940-549-0737 and they will be happy to help get you started.
